On Friday, October 26, 2007, Signature Healthcare Foundation hosted the 5th Annual Health Policy Forum at the Marriott West. This year’s forum was entitled “Health Care Reimbursement: Where Does the Money Go?” The purpose of the forum was to stimulate cross-sectional community dialogue about healthcare quality, efficiency and affordability.  Attendees included healthcare executives and managers, providers, business leaders and HR managers, governmental leaders and non-profit organizations.

The keynote speaker for the event, Robert D. Reischauer, president of the Urban Institute, opened the forum with his address, “Slicing Up the Health Care Pie: Does it Make Any Sense?”

Reischauer is a former director of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and nationally known expert on the federal budget, Medicare and Social Security. Prior to becoming President of the Urban Institute in 2000, he was a senior fellow of economic studies at the Brookings Institution.

More than 140 attendees listened to presentations by panel speakers Robert Keaveney, executive editor of Physicians Practice Magazine; Michael McManus, chief operating officer for Kenneth Hall Regional Hospital; Jan Vest, chief executive officer, Signature Health Services, Inc.; and Daniel Pribe, former executive director of risk management & chief actuary for Mercy Health Plans. In addition, viewpoints were exchanged in a lively panel discussion which included Mary Jo Feldstein, health care reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, who served as moderator.

2007 Paul Simon Award

Signature Healthcare Foundation was pleased to announce the presentation of the Paul Simon Award to the Civic Entrepreneurs Organization Foundation for the Gateway to Health Challenge and Dragon Boat Festival. The award recognizes creative and effective methods to save money and increase business efficiency in the health care system. Karen Goodman, executive director of the CEO Foundation, accepted the $2,000 award. The award was presented by Herman Noah, president of the Signature Healthcare Foundation Board.
