( St. Louis, January 28, 2008) The Signature Healthcare Foundation is pleased to announce the presentation of $5,000 to the St. Louis American Diabetes Association (ADA) for its “Winning at Work” program. The goal of the program is to help the business community promote health & wellness to employees through educating on the strategies for preventing and controlling diabetes.

To garner the award, the St. Louis American Diabetes Association helps area companies to understand the complexities of diabetes. Companies are increasingly affected by diabetes. The total annual economic cost of diabetes in medical expenditures and lost productivity is estimated to be $132 billion. The ADA hopes to change this trend by raising awareness in the workplace.

According to Herman Noah, President of the Signature Healthcare Foundation,
“The Foundation is pleased to be able to support the efforts of the St. Louis American Diabetes Association to educate individuals about this critical health issue. Through education and lifestyle changes, people with diabetes can reduce diabetes complications and thus remain healthier, more productive employees.”
